The introduction of mobile phone devices in health care management has transformed various aspects of clinical practice. Mobile application helps healthcare providers to access and use patient and disease information at the point of care (Vogenberg and Santilli 2018). Mobile applications perform essential tasks such as health record management, communication, consultation of patients and their doctors, reference information gathering, patient management, and medical education and training. Mobile technology boost communication between administrators, physicians, and nurses, and patients. Healthcare providers use mhealth applications to write notes, store x-ray photographs, and organize test results within an electronic database. Patients have access to mobile applications use them to consult with their healthcare providers whenever an emergency occurs.
Artificial intelligence (AI) performs tasks that were initially undertaken by humans. The technology simplifies the lives of patients, clinicians, and administrators (Cresswell and Sheikh 2015). AI software applications scan patients’ survey responses and connect them with the right and specific healthcare provider. The technology helps the health facility manage data by recording patients’ clinical history, payment information, drug prescriptions, and next appointment date information. AI provides security measures to identify abnormal network connectivity, which prevents fraudsters, hackers, and malware infections. Nursing practitioners use technology to help patients take better care of themselves while at home. Patients are given wearable devices like smart vests that record health data and provide predictive capacities.
Virtual and augmented reality is another current technological trend used in health facilities. The technology is beneficial to all types of patients; diabetics and heart problem patients can monitor and manage their conditions (Krause, Franks and Lynch 2017). Nurses can show patients with diabetes how to administer insulin doses and other medications. Patients with severe hypertension can monitor their blood pressure, calorie intake, and heartbeat rate through augmented reality.
Technological trends offer patients the potential to receive more comprehensive care faster and efficiently. Adequate medical care would mean a reduced number of costly patient readmissions. The technologies will save on both the patients and the hospitals (Cresswell and Sheikh 2015). Mobile technologies, for instance, save the patients time and transport cost he/she would have used to travel to hospitals for a simple checkup. Although technological healthcare advancement improves patient outcomes, it can pose potential risks to patients’ wellbeing. Mistyping into the wrong medical data entry is a significant setback in the field of healthcare. Medical practitioners can contribute to medical errors by administering the wrong medication to patients.
In conclusion, the most promising healthcare technology is electronic health records (EHR) inpatient care. The system has proven to be the most useful data storage technology by reducing medical errors related to human negligence and complacency. Compared to other technological trends, the system is easy to use by medical providers. Hospital administrators and other relevant stakeholders should ensure the facilities are well equipped with the current models of EHR.
